Today is Maundy Thursday; we attended a service in our church. It was good to be reminded what our Lord Jesus went through, to give everything for us.
I wanted to take the chance to wish you all a Happy Easter, even though you might read it after the Easter Holiday, but it doesn’t really matter.
Also I wanted to take the opportunity to share a little story with you, which happened to us when we were in Mali, Africa, last year.
When we were in Mali, there were two boys, probably 10 or a bit younger. We were sitting in a car and waiting for the traffic light to change, as they started to wash our windscreen.
Usually in Liberia, we would start our wipers, which prevents young people washing the windscreen of the car and don’t receive any money for it.
Anyhow, our driver, another Missionary, he started to look for money. What he found was small money: 500 CFA which stands for Central Francs African, the currency in Mali.
500 CFA are around 0.70 pence, but what he wanted to give them was 'only' 100 CFA (0.14 pence). He said to one of the boys, that he would like to have 400 CFA (0.56 pence) change. They ran around to find change, but they couldn’t find any... and then the traffic light changed.
All they could give him back was 350 CFA (0.49 pence). He decided to let them get away with it and told them, it would be ok and they could keep the change.
The two boys looked at the money they have just been given and shouted: "Hurray". They were so happy, just from making 50 CFA (0.07 pence) more than usually. So instead of earning 0.14 pence they’ve got 0.21 pence.
It really spoke to me. For him, the missionary, it did not make really any difference, whatsoever, but for the two boys it made their day. For them, it was the greatest gift ever.
My thoughts were: Should I not live more like that? Trying to be more generous with what God has given me? It doesn’t matter, if it is money, time, love, food or you name it. It is just a little for me, but big for them..... Happy Easter!
