Everything slows down here in Haiti over Christmas and New Year.
Christmas day we celebrated with our colleague in Grand Goave, 2 hour’s drive from here. She had made turkey with stuffing and all sorts of food. Oh, it was so good.
New Year’s Eve has been quiet, we had our coworker with her husband around for dinner. After Andy and I flittered away our time watching several series of ‘24’ waiting for midnight. We were surprised how many fireworks people actually shot in the air.
Before Christmas Jutta had caught a cold, which she still has a bit. On one point she felt better, but then fell back, she started to inhale almost every 3 hours. Today she is feeling much better. I don’t know if you are like me but when I have back pain – I exercise, until the pain gets better. When I have a cold – I inhale until breathing gets better.
Today, 2014 has started, I don’t know anybody who doesn’t come up with some sort of New Year’s resolutions. I reflect on last year, and I come to the conclusion that as a couple, we are very good of reading the bible and praying together every morning. But what about my own personal relationship with God? I wonder myself: I am disciplined enough to find time to inhale every 3 hours, but I find it hard to set time aside for God. Daniel comes to mind, when he went home to his upstairs room where the windows opened toward Jerusalem. Three times a day he got down on his knees and prayed, giving thanks to his God (Daniel 6:10).
This year, I would like to get closer to my father in heaven again. Take time, listen and wait for him, so I don’t miss, when he speaks to me.
Many Blessings
