Sorry for being quiet

Enjoying the finer things in life, ice cream

Sorry for the silence over the last few weeks, but life is a bit hectic after our return from holidays.
We were blessed, if you can look at it that way, with an unscheduled 24 hour lay-over in Casablanca courtesy of Royal-Air-Maroc. The loading of the plane in Paris was so overwhelming and also comical at the same time, with some passengers demanding that their hand luggage was above them or they wouldn't sit down. This was frustrating for us to watch our connection time in Casablanca diminish and dwindle away while sat on the tarmac in Paris. With the delay we missed our departure slot and had to wait for another. The passenger sat next to us, tried to explain that we would still make our onward flight because of the time difference. But upon arrival in Casablanca we were ushered to the outer hall to receive a hotel voucher and ticket for our onward flight the next night. Frantically we called the taxi in Conakry and told him we were not coming until the next day.

Beautiful Mosque in Casablanca
Train from the airport

A nice hotel swimming pool was awaiting for our morning swim, with a breakfast, lunch and dinner voucher we were ready to go and see the city. The front desk told us a taxi would be 50USD or the train would be 4USD, so no question it would be the train. The train station was in the airport, so we jumped on the courtesy shuttle-bus to the airport, got to the front door and asked for the station. We were told to walk to the other end of the airport for the train, upon arrival at the door we were asked for our passports, we didn't have them. A friendly policeman helped us through and we took the train, upon arrival we headed for the sea-front in Casablanca. By the time we arrived we only had 2 hours, so we walked to visit the main Mosque on the seaside, returned and had our last McDonalds before boarding the train back to the airport. We were the first off the train and had a huge crowd behind us when we arrived and the security check point, with the crowd pushing they let us back in the airport, we got the shuttle back and went for dinner, shattered and ready for our midnight flight.

We arrived at 4am in Conakry, eyes blurry, but were unable to find our taxi driver. We called and the security at the airport called but no answer. At 6 we decided it was time to call and wake-up our colleague as were traveling the 9 hours back to Labe that day. By the time we arrived at home in Labe we had been traveling for almost three days, our heads were spinning and we were ready to sleep for days. The Lord is good as we look back and see His protection over all the miles we traveled and arrived safe and sound with all our luggage as well.
Good news, the contract is signed for our new house. Just the finishing touches and we can start to look for furniture and all those things needed to make a home.
