Just for information: Macenta has 66 mosques and 14 churches.
Jutta’s thoughts to above: For me the one church with its bell seems so quite compare to the noises of the mosques, which are waking me up and it takes me a while to fall back asleep. Usually I get up to read Gods word.
Especially last Friday night I prayed for them, that Jesus will speak to their hearts through visions and dreams. What was so profound on the whole situation was that the very loud thunder reminded me of what God is saying in his word: (taken from the NET)
Job 37, 2-5: Listen carefully to the thunder of his voice, to the rumbling that proceeds from his mouth. Under the whole heaven he lets it go, even his lightning to the far corners of the earth. After that a voice roars; he thunders with an exalted voice, and he does not hold back his lightning bolts when his voice is heard. God thunders with his voice in marvelous ways; he does great things beyond our understanding…. (please write the whole Chapter, I like it very much, it is so powerful).
Job 38,25: Who carves out a channel for the heavy rains, and a path for the rumble of thunder
Job 40,9: Do you have an arm as powerful as God’s and can you thunder with a voice like his?
So for me it seemed like that God was already speaking through the storm, but they continued ‘praying’ and did not stop because they were in awe. Or maybe they did… who knows. Like Vers 7 says: “… So that all men he has made may know his work, he stops every man from his labour.” After an hour or so I went back to bed. The next day, when I woke up, I saw my right arm and left ankle were covered in bits. Not nice. Next time, I’m very sure, I will stay inside.
Andy continuous:
This was our final weekend in Macenta as we leave for Conakry tomorrow Tuesday; Conakry will be our home until just after Christmas when we will move again. We start our formal language training on the 5th of September in the French cultural centre which is an hour’s drive away by taxi in downtown Conakry.
During the weekend I Andy was desperately trying to finish an autobiography from Kate Adie “The Kindness of Strangers” which was among the books left in the house, it dawned on me how true that title was, we are here among people of great need, but show us great kindness, maybe its just in small things but I am sure they would be willing to give much more. I am a slow reader as it had taken six weeks to finish. Jutta has been trying to use up all the flour, eggs and bananas by making cakes, I didn’t complain! The diet of fish/green leaves and rice sometimes gets a little monotonous.
