No Electricity

Two weeks ago Sunday we had a big bang in our house, after that we were sitting in the dark. Since then we haven’t had city electricity. Normally the town electricity would come on every evening or every night for around 6 hours, so we could charge everything. I think the longest when we did not have electricity was for 3 days. But now it is different, because the company needs to repair the transformer, and because we are living in a very poor neighbourhood it will take a long time until they start repairing it. Andy says it will never happen… we will see. Our guardian made already his way to remind the company. Wonder how many times he will have to go there… we will let you know if something changes.

“Don’t you have solar panels?” you might ask now. Yes, we do, but with all the rain, the sun doesn’t come through strong enough to charge the batteries. So since 2 weeks now we eat our dinner by candlelight. It would be very romantic if it would be just the two of us, but we are living together with another person, so we are always three.

I think it gets on all our nerves a bit without electricity, especially, since last week, we’ve had a visitor from France, and we thought, that its not really pleasant for him either, what for hospitality. Anyhow, we decided with the whole team in Conakry that it would be good to get the generator, to have at least once a day 1-2 hours of power. But another problem is, that the converter we had broke through that big bang and the one we have now is not holding the electricity. So whenever we turn the generator on, we do everything: loading laptops, charging cell phones, electric toothbrushes etc. Everything else is done during daylight hours.Thank you for all your emails and always the reminders that we are prayed for, this helps lots. Wouldn’t like to know how it is without your prayers, smile. God bless you all.
