Hurricane Isaac

Thursday evening, preparing for Hurricane Isaac to blow over Port-au-Prince. Thousands of people still living in tents. We are getting ready: Searching for blankets, rain jackets, flash lights, etc just to be prepared for the worse to come.
The forecast was that the Storm would hit Friday evening, around 8pm, now it is expected earlier. We heard our Haitians neighbours having a Party, and in the Dominican Republic the south coast was being evacuated. We found this quite interesting.

Friday night, we spent in the orphanage with the children. The winds started to pick up at around 8 pm. We could hardly sleep so when we did our rounds almost every 2 hours, we always found the kids sleeping safe and sound, they weren’t scared at all. We tried to sleep from 2 am onwards, but because of the rain and the heavy wind, we couldn’t really. It sounded like the roof was coming off.

Saturday, the kids were playing, like nothing happened. We asked them, if they had slept well, they all answered with ‘Yes’. Water started to drip through our ceiling, so we put a bucket to collect it.
Also the paint started to come of the wall of the orphanage.
The rain kept going on until the evening. We were invited to a wedding so we needed to drive across town. We found electricity poles and trees broken, lots of water on the streets, the storm drain which goes into the sea was piled up with Styrofoam. The President has prohibited the import of Styrofoam from the 1st September. We understand why.
Thank you for keeping us in your prayers. We appreciate it. God was watching over us and our work colleagues, who live two hours from the capital.
