We left on a Wednesday and came back the following Monday. During
the trip to the first village we had to change taxi mini-bus because a lorry
had crashed in the middle of the road, then to our surprise as we meandered up
a mountainous road, it had gone. A landslide had taken the road away just
leaving a walkway, which the motorbikes quickly used. It materialized that
workmen had been working above with diggers and had pushed a huge rock which
took down the road. After three hours of waiting they cut another route, we
then continued on our way.
We visited 6 different villages in which I presented different micro-enterprise ideas. The participants ranged from 50 to 300 women.
The official Day of Prayer for the Baptist women from around
the world was on November 2, 2012, they came together to study God’s word, pray
and give, so that the world will be impacted for Christ. The theme this year was
on the fruit of the Spirit, JOY. How can women and children be filled with joy
and know God’s kingdom when they are confronted with poverty, hunger, abuse and
violence?
What was neat was that women in Haiti prayed for other Baptist
women worldwide: 7 continents, 136 countries, 235 Women’s groups
Baptist Women’s Union of the South West Pacific (BWUSWIP)
Baptist Women’s Union of Africa (BWUA)
Asian Baptist Women’s Union (ABWU)
European Baptist Women’s Union (EBWU)
Baptist Women’s Union of Latin America (UFBAL)
North American Baptist Women’s Union (NABWU)
One night, we had a room, which was right next to the pigs. Because
the ‘toilet’ was far away, they gave us a white bucket, so we didn't need to go
out during the night. I thought I would never use one… but, I guess, there is
always an exceptions.
Another night, we stayed in a room, which reminded me
actually of a prison cell (not that I ever stayed in one before), it was so
cold, damp and wherever you looked, it was mouldy The rain brought the
temperature down even more, and like you can see on the photo, they needed to
give me a blanket. We put our mosquito net up, like we did every night. Because
of the terrible mattress, we decided to sleep the other way around, so usually
where people have their feet, we laid our heads down. Suddenly, I felt
something crawling over my face, and then Andy: Oh, what was that? It didn't feel
big, and it was fast, but still we could feel the fur running over our faces. Maybe
it’s better not to think too hard about it, what kind of animal it could have
been.
Furthermore, besides cockroaches in the bathroom, fire flies in our bedroom and mosquito's we had a good time. We met lots of new sisters and brothers in Christ, and we hope to go and visit and do some teaching there someday soon.
