Port-au-Prince to Limbe takes around 7
hours by mini-van. We arrived on Friday afternoon after a long journey to
Limbe. We saw a few accidents at the
side of the road, when we got out of the van, we all thanked God for his
protection. The night before the celebration we had a huge thunder and
lightning storm. We already knew by then, that some people will be hindered to
travel because of it.Like ourselves, some SHG’s had already
arrived, so they didn’t have to travel a long distance on Saturday. When we woke the
next day, we cleared the site and put all the benches out. We were expecting 500 people in total. Women and men gave testimonies how SHG has
changed their life’s. Some groups did a sketch and others did a dance (see
video).
 |
The celebration started with a team game, which they enjoyed. We could see how teams identified themselves with each other by wearing the same t-shirts; others had the same hats, and others wore black and white.

 |
| People needed to throw a bottle and shout at the same time what they like on SHG |
After the game, it was time for speeches, we represented CBF, the organization we are seconded to from BMS. I thanked everybody for coming and pointed out all the positives that different people bring to these groups, so SHG can work.
 |
Some people were very passionate about how SHG impacted their life's.
|
 |
| Andy needed to say something too |
 |
| At the dance, a fruit 'basket' was presented. We got to take a pineapple home. |
 |
| After the celebration, everybody got chicken & rice |
The dance.
My speech. People applauded for CBF (The cooperative Baptist Fellowship).Everybody went home happy and encouraged. Some SHG’s stayed again over night to start travelling in the early hours, as we did ourselves.
