Luiz visited Haiti, as part of his development studies with Oxford University. He is an assistant Pastor from Brunswick Baptist Church, Gloucester, UK (one of our Church partners). We were over the moon that he had the opportunity to stay with us for a couple of days. We thought while he was here we could use his expertise with our Self-Help-Group in Port-au-Prince, so we did some mapping of how the women use their resources.
The question for the women was: What areas do you spend most of your money per month? The stones represented money. Wherever they put lots of stones, they spent more, where there are none, they don't have any expenses. For
example housing, the reason they would only put a few stones would be that they own the
property, if they rent a property they would put many more stones. Another example the more children they had the more stones would represent education.
First they didn't really understand and were
a bit hesitant to share, but after they saw what they needed to do, many
participated. Here are some photos.
