Chicken and the Egg

We received a grant from "The Texas Baptist Hunger Offering" for an animal husbandry project. After visiting Mirebalais and hearing the story of Julie (Name changed), we decided on funding this particular project.

Julie

Julie at the age of three fell from the top of a water reservoir and hit her head, after treatment at the local hospital her parents were told that the brain damage would result in her not being able to learn the same way as others. Her father decided to start a special school and adopt a different learning strategy. This has paid off as at the age of 11 Julie is second in her class and they have just over 30 in the school. Last month we provided them with the materials to repair and old aviary for the new chicken and egg project.

We had wood and Andy made some boxes for transporting them.







Friday the 1st of August was chicken day, collect food supplies and then the 50 chickens. We arrived at the chicken hangers, there was 10,000 in each hanger and we could see 8 hangers . The chickens traveled quite well for the 45 minute trip, while moving they would sit and be quiet but when we stopped in traffic they stood and made their presence known.

We arrived at our destination and were flabbergasted to find out that they had not finished the repairs to the coup. Their response was don't worry the carpenter is here, we looked at each other and sighed, hung up the feeders and water supplier, put the boxes in the coup and let the carpenter finish his work. As we emptied the cages the chickens had laid 9 eggs on the journey.
