Friday we were to have a meeting to share about
Self-Help-Groups, with the West regional pastors from the Haitian Baptist
Convention, Thursday it was cancelled. UK government email warning of
disruption due to tropical storm Chantal, we were to travel the day before the
storm hits Haiti.
We attended the General Assembly for the convention, upon our arrival we were
presented with an agenda. Surprisingly we noticed two one hour slots to talk
about SHG’s. The trainer for the North gave testimonies; spoke about the
concept of the program and answered questions. Jutta was asked to present to
the convention the strategy for rolling out the program across Haiti in the
Baptist churches, adding another 30 minutes to an already full agenda. This
opportunity was beyond our expectations, although we had written it in our
action plan, we were not sure we would be given the opportunity. We gave out 130 SHG flyers, if everyone wants to start with the program, we will be very busy, smile.
While in the North two youth pastors wanted to visit the local radio station, we were asked if we wanted to tag along. Jutta was thinking about having an SHG member sharing their story on the radio as a promotion, so why not go and look at how a station works. We arrived at Radio 4VEH and were introduced to the directors, who would have guessed a lady from Newport, Wales had married a Haitian and was helping him run the station. We spoke with them about the opportunity of having a half an hour slot, they agreed it was a great idea, will let you know the progress of this and when it will go live.
