In An Instant

Another piece of French colonial architecture disappears

After many years of neglect the bridge that has been standing since French rule has fallen. On Wednesday evening when a truck laden with wood was crossing the bridge that always creaked as you passed fell into the river below. The driver and two occupants were unhurt.

This has caused a huge problem, as the bridge was on the number 1 highway to the rest of Guinea. They quickly made a ford with a JCB, but the next day the rains washed it away. It is reported that 2000 people are stuck on both sides trying to cross.
As soon as we heard the news we filled up with fuel, as no tankers will be able to cross. If the route is broken for long the inner regions of Guinea will be crippled, as they rely on goods being transported by road.

From our city there is an alternative route that add about 5 hours to the journey time. This route is only for smaller vehicles as there is a small barge to cross a river on route. Apparently they have been profiting as the price of the barge has risen from £1 each way to £2.50 overnight. Who can blame them :-)

Prayer Points:
  1. Pray that the bridge will be replaced swiftly but also it will be well constructed to last as many years as the one that fell.
  2. Pray for the rains that have started albeit slowly, continue as many rely on them for their crops.
  3. Pray for Miracle our Labrador, she has been unwell for a longtime now, pray she recovers quickly before we head out on holiday.
